How to update HTC Inspire 4G (without AT&T sim)?

Hi,
I just joined this forums-site because I've been looking for an answer for a few days and this site popped up the most.
Anyway here's the issue:
I recently bought an HTC Inspire 4G Unlocked from Amazon. The phone came with an at&t box (since At&t owns that phone in the United States) but the problem is the phone came with Android 2.2 and I wanted to update it to Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). Every time I tap "AT&T Software Update" the "Check for updates" option is grey-ed out and when I insert my T-Mobile sim, the button becomes white and I can tap it but when I do it just keeps "checking for updates" then gives me "Servers unavailable" so my guess is I have to have an at&t sim card in the phone to actually update it. I really need to update it because I cannot stand Android 2.2 at all.

Is there any possible way to update it without the at&t sim card? Whether it was via computer or via the phone itself, I really don't care. I just want to update. I've been trying to look for a way both online and offline for a few days and I reached nothing.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: ALSO, If I update it, will that remove the unlocked thing? And if it does, is there a way to unlock it once more and what is that way if it exists? Sorry I'm a bit of a noob.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums, Firefox. :)

I don't think you can without the AT&T SIM card since this update is coming from them and you need to be on AT&T to get it. Also, the update isn't ICS sadly, but the latest version of Gingerbread 2.3.5
If I recall the Unlock process is usually permanent.
