Help How to update PRL with a sim card.

This is my first phone with any type of SIM card.

I'm used to being able to do an over the air PRL update with *228 but I get the follow message when I try that:

A verizon Wireless SIM card has activated your service and updated your phone's roaming capabilities.

Does this mean that one can not do an over the air PRL update?

How you get an update? Do I have to go to a verizon corporate store and have them update the SIM? If so, what a PIA. In the past I've manually loaded PRL files when over the air updates were not available as I was out of area. Is there any way to do this?

It just seems to me if the SIM mean I can no longer update coverage automatically or even manually myself that it's a huge step backwards.

The phone does it automatically.

just reboot the phone, by default it does a sim check to see if it needs to be activated.

Or if you want, you can call into customer service and they can push a PRL update to the phone for you.

Are you saying the phone checks for PRL update every time the phone boots up? One of the reasons I'm asking is, if I can load a PRL myself I can switch to get preference for close towers rather than the one my carrier would prefer I use. Also, in my experience, PRL push never works.
