HOW TO UPDATE S8 WHEN NOT WITH MAJOR CARRIER

UNLOCKED ATT S8 PLUS. running to best buy in my wheelchair wont cut it to flash. HOW TO KNOW IF SAMSUNG OTA OR CARRIER. i tried dumb switch even when an update is out and still is dumb like biby and never says update out.

A true carrier-neutral device would have the updates come from Samsung. If the phone was originally branded to a carrier and simply unlocked to use on any carrier, then that could get dodgy.

got that right. I have gotten recent samsung update but if it has to do the merry go round and round then goes to a carrier/ then im afraid it wont come from att. I ASSUMED UNLOCKED IS FREE FROM. BUT locked is always updated; free to fly to other mnvo s but not assured carrier updates. i say theres something dead wrong. i tried smartswitch too.

What I suspect is happening is that the device is identifying on Samsung's network as an AT&T phone even though it's unlocked and AT&T is not responding to the phone's update request because you are off their network. (Technically Straight Talk is AT&T's network, but not an AT&T account).

Smart switch wouldn't work either because Samsung's agreement with AT&T is that update would come from the carrier. Catch-22.

I would think the best option to stay current is to wait for someone to post the AT&T OTA's and update the phone manually.

Hope I don't have to use ODIN if I find firmware download.

Can you point me to the area of how to manually install firmware without bricking it. I know how to do all sideload
