Hi

I have bought a new 32gb micro sd card to replace my now full 16gb one.

Can someone please advise the best way to transfer the data to the new card

Thanks

  • Nandroid backup
  • connect phone and mount SD card on PC
  • Set PC to "show hidden files"
  • Copy all data to PC
  • Partition new card (Using gparted preferably)
  • Copy data back to new card
  • Nandroid restore.

hi,

I tried exactly the same, but on completion of restoring the nandroid backup, and then rebooting, the phone sits on the HTC screen, then appears to go blank, as if rebooting.
I went back into recovery and did wipe data/factort reset, same result.

What have I done wrong SU?

Thanks

wow OP - a timely question :D
i was just going to search for the same thing, as i need to gpart my sd but thought it best to by a bigger and hight class/faster one first

cheers

well my desire eventually booted into home screen, downloaded apps etc but my original issue remains.

on SD card /phone storage option, I am showing 5.83GB, should this not be the 1GB I had set it to in gparted?

Just have a look in gparted. The fat32 should be on the left of the screen and the ext on the right,

Yes, go back in to Gpasrted and check. Main FAT32 partition should be on left and should take up most of space, with EXT partition on right set to say 512MB (max of 1024MB recommended) depending on your needs.
Think you've just set the space allocation wrong way round. Resizing should be ok. Do a nandroid first (to back up your sd-ext as it looks like you got some apps in there), and copy everything on SD card to PC so you can copy back. PC will only 'see' the FAT32 partition and set explorer options to show hidden files/folders as well to make sure you pick everything up.
Try re-sizing, or possibly need to re-format if re-size isn't successful.

thanks su and latterly saltire, for taking the time to respond.

I could not believe that I got such a simple thing wrong, so I pulled the page I printed showing instructions on how to partition sd card. What did I misread? Instructions stated to resize the first partition down BY around 1040 mb. I resized it TO 1040....Numpty. No wonder I had to remove folders from my sd card backup just to make it all fit, and this is why I couldnt figure how I had LESS space when going from a 4GB to an 8GB card! Lesson learned. If unsure, read the instructions thorughlyand repeatedly!

well I got the order od the partitioning right this time, and after restoring all files to the sd card, doing a date wipe/dalvik cache wipe, I get stuck on a splash screen, it reboots twice from the HTC screen gets to the third boot ( showing HTC - quietly brilliant) then sits there.

I have to battery pull, or should I just have some patience?

It sits for almost ten minutes on the last screen. Any thoughts?

I did not reformat the card, simply deleted the partitions and started again

Once you delete partitions then it just becomes unallocated space. You have to create partition to make it usable.
I wonder how u managed to restore your sdcard without creating partitions. Somethings not right.

Yep, something not right. When you say deleted and started again did you re-allocate a FAT32 and then EXT partition in Gparted? Sounds like the EXT partition isn't being picked up and some ROMs won't boot without it - haven't used GV so can't say if it's the same.

Did you copy all folders including hidden ones that start with a dot (like .android_secure etc) back from PC to sd card?

thanks for response guys, I managed to get up and running again without issue.

Saltire I simply deleted the existing partition ( back to the full 7.4GB unallocated space), then went ahead with the EXT4 and FAT32 creation

However my original glitch continues, I get a force close on rosie utility when trying to select a lockscreen. Non are listed and the screen hangs.

i started another thread here but so far not got any response.

6.4gb on FAT32
1GB on EXT4
ROM is AceSMod007 2.3.3 Sense 2.1/3.0 v40
Installed Agile Lock from the market as a stop gaplockscreen, but I dislike
