If it's the same app, the old version will be automatically replaced with the new version.Thanks. So, I don't have to 1st uninstall my current app?
What are the steps I need to take to install the most recent Yahoo app on my phone & laptop? Uninstall my current Yahoo app? Do I just do a search & download from there?
Yes, I'm having issues with my phone: 1st I'm getting messages saying "Can't log in". ..like every 20 or 30 mins! The emails I'm getting from Yahoo advise to upgrade. As you already have the Yahoo Mail app on your phone you really don't need to do anything to keep it current. Google's Play Store app keeps all the apps on your phone up to date so when Yahoo releases an updated version to the Play Store it will then get applied to your phone. It's not necessary to uninstall the old app, unless you're having some kind of serious problems accessing your Yahoo account. But unless you've disabled the auto-update feature in the Play Store app all the updates to your apps take place in automatically in the background and it's usually a process where the user isn't involved. If you're curious however, the Yahoo Mail page in Google Play lists some of its features and at the bottom relevant app info:

Regarding your laptop, if it's running Linux or OS X/macOS there is no desktop application, you just access Yahoo through your web browser. The same applies if it's running Win7. If you're running Win10 you can just use a browser or there is a Win10 desktop app:

Plus, I sent a couple of emails to a friend 12/14, but they weren't rcvd til New Yr's Eve!
Today I did 2 Chats with Verizon & clicked the link each x to have the Chat dialogue notes emailed to me. Here it is 10 hrs later & neither has hit my inbox: 1 for Yahoo mail & 1 for Gmail.
Wow! ..looks like I've some work to do. Two nites ago I set up a Gmail acct linking it with my Yahoo acct (..not sure if that creates addtl problems or not) with plans on migrating from Yahoo to Gmail for various reasons. That day may come sooner than later. I'll definitely study the articles youve linked for me.Sounds like your account has been compromised as opposed to a problem specifically with the Yahoo app on your phone. You might want to go into your Settings >> Application manager and find your Yahoo Mail app. Open it, click on the 'Force stop' button, then the 'Clear data' button. Note the 'Clear data' button will clear the app's cache and wipe all the app's settings and your account info. It basically returns the Yahoo app into a 'clean' state so you'll have to re-enter your user name and password to get it set up again. If you're still seeing issues with your Yahoo account, you'll probably want to take steps to try and restore your account back to normal, and then go through the above process again to get the Yahoo app on your phone back to normal too. Here's a nice summary worth reading through:

Also, you might want to think about checking your Yahoo email address:

Give some serious thought into migrating to a different email service. Last year alone Yahoo was hit at least twice in very, very big ways. The Krebs article above references the more recent 1 billion account hack, this article refers to the earlier 500 million account hack:
