How to use Tasker to keep display off when wireless charging?

I use a QI wireless charging receiver with my Galaxy S4. It works Ok, but as soon as the phone is fully charged the display turns on, and keeps turning on every couple of minutes as the phone continually switches between running on the battery and wireless charging. Since I charge overnight this means that the phone display is flashing on and off for most of the night.

How can I use Tasker to prevent the phone display from turning on while it is on the charger overnight?

I'm not entirely sure that you'll be able to prevent the device from waking the display during its charge cycle, but you should be able to use Tasker to immediately turn the display back off. In that case, I'd recommend also using Tasker to set the display backlight to its lowest setting at night so that it would be less disruptive.

I'm about to duck out for a bite to eat, but I can try to sketch out an example profile for you later if it would be helpful. :)

Thanks. At the moment I do set the display to its lowest level when charging, but I'd really like to kill it altogether.

I read somewhere that Tasker could turn the display off completely, but can't remember where I read it!

My suspicion is that it won't prevent it from turning on, so much as turn it back off. On that note, have you thought to reduce the amount of time the screen stays on when charging?

The problem is that Tasker can't tell the difference between wireless charging and USB charging on the S4. So for example if I reduce the display timeout to 5 seconds when charging this will also apply when it's charging in the car or on my desk, which I may not want.

Maybe also set a Time context so that it only triggers at hours when you're sleeping?

Also, Display -> System Lock is the action to use to turn off the display.

Wow. On a Profile that was triggered by the proximity sensor I was saving the timeout time and setting display timeout to the shortest time I could ... 7 seconds ... and restoring it when it woke up.

What I wanted to do was simply turn it off ... I now can ... Thanks.

It doesn't work on every device; if you run into issues with that, the Secure Settings plugin has a similar function that may be more reliable.

Not a tasker solution, but couldnt you just put the screen face down when its on the qi pad?

I don't think wireless charging works that way. The coil on the back of the battery has to be extremely close to the charger for it to work; some cases are even too thick for wireless charging. I don't think charging through the phone would work.

Try the new tasker version 4.3. There was solved the problem with wireless charging recognition for Note 3 using Kitkat, maybe it will also solve your S4 problem.
