How To: workaround annoying bugs and limitations

Since we don't (yet) have root I've been looking for ways to make the most out of this phone as is and long story short I've found ways to get rid of ads, transparent heads up notifications and stupidly huge everything.

For ads, install NetGuard and apply this host file. Ads gone.

For notifications, install Floatify and disable stock notifications. Works like a charm.

DPI can be changed through adb (so things don't look huge anymore). Enable USB debugging, plug your phone in and change DPI using the following command:

adb shell wm density DPI && adb reboot

Replace "DPI" to whatever you'd like. Default is 480 if you change your mind and want to reset it. I have it at 420; I think that's the sweet spot.

The stock screen lock will no longer work, unfortunately, but you can download one from the play store. I recommend Next since it works with our fingerprint reader. Keep in mind if you boot into safe mode you can bypass any custom lock screen; something to keep in mind if security is that much of a concern to you.

There's nearly no glitches with a lower DPI. I only found one and that's the navigation headsup notifications looking a little deformed but who really uses those anyways.

Finally if you have the patience to set it up, Status is the perfect replacement for the fugly stock status bar. I mean, it works OK as it comes, but it doesn't recognize colors properly in some apps but gives you the option to set it up to any color you like. Like I said, if you have patience this is perfect for you. I'm sure you hate the bloated stock status bar as much as me. Drop down notification menu is not changed with this app.

I noticed 0 performance and battery changes using these apps.

When I used a DPI changer it worked good until I reseted my phone. the screen kept blinking after bootup and when i hook it up to usb it connects and disconnects itself... same happen when i switched to 400, 410, 420, 440 and 460 dpi as well. after a reboot I put the phone to sleep and the screen blinks upon wake up too. had to go back to default -____-

Maybe it was me leaving the stock lock screen was the problem..

That's exactly what it is. Disable it and install one from the Play Store.
