How will BB10 affect Android?

Do you think the launch of BB10 will affect Android market share? Will BB10 make Android improve in area that it's lacking? or will BB10 be irrelevant in today's world because they are too late to the game and BB10 will be a flop and final nail in the coffin for RIM?

Doubt it. BB has an even smaller marketshare than Windows in the smartphone department, and the only thing great about BB is the BBM service which is slowly being replaced by iMessage for iPhones, and Google is starting to build on Google+ Messaging and Google Voice to make a cross platform service.

I doubt it too, I think it will more likely affect Windows phone if any at all.. business use tends to go with iphone now rather than android (although we use android for ours) so if they make a miraculous recovery I'd expect it to hit apple and/windows.. can't really see either to be honest.

surely with the complex nature of BB10 OS and the fact that many of the BB10 apps are Android ports, it is going to affect Android market share more the the other two.

Again doubt it. If that is what it is, what does BB10 offer that will make it a better choice over Android? Less than 1% of the population is using BBM, you can contact across platforms using various services on Android and iOS, and considering that the apps are ports, you need more resources to run an app on BB10 than on Android. For example, Subway Surf may run smoothly on Android dual core, but porting it to a BB10 device with the exact same specs will cause it to be laggy. Why? Because apart from the game, the emulator will be used to run it. An app needs to be rewritten from ground up to make it run smoothly on another platform. Its the same reason why you need a PC with at least 10x more processing power than a PSOne to run a PSOne emulator smoothly.

BB is toast. Palm got a boost when they released WebOS with good reviews. But it was temporary and too little too late. Same thing is happening again. BB can't affect Android if it's as good as dead, a market share non-factor.

Too little, too late. Blackberry's rep has taken a beating and gone down hill in nearly all areas. I don't even think they have nostalgia working for them the way Palm did.

Blackberry's future (if it has one) is not in devices but services. I think they might have a chance (although it is getting slimmer everyday) if they license their BES and Messaging services and focus on delivering a secure communication platform that works with nearly any device.

By the way - they are no longer RIM, they changed their company name to Blackberry with the launch of BB10.

I would have agreed with the opinions above if a colleague hadn't cancelled his Nexus 4 order so that he could buy one of the new BBs.

And he's been an Android boy for years, apparently - last phone was a Galaxy Nexus.

Never having had a BB, I don't really understand the attraction, but then I guess, for nostalgia's sake, I probably would buy a Nokia 'droid, were they to make one.

lol good luck to your friend. Wow.

I used to have a Blackberry curve - nasty thing. My daughter wanted it, so I swapped it for her WFS. What is it about BBs that makes them attractive to girls?

Might I also add the commercial during the Superbowl was awful..."it's easier to show you what it can't do than what is can in 30 seconds"???? How is that going to bring in new users.

I doubt that this will be anything that will help BB come back. Personally I think they are about a year or so late. They really needed to push BB10 out before ICS and JB came out as Android really hadn't fleshed out yet.

It's not going to make any impact on the current smart phone market. Blackberry hasn't been relevant in the consumer market in a long time. Considering the huge market shares of Android and iOS, someone would have to put out a far superior product just to break in at this point. The BB10 looks to be on par, but only just, and certainly can't match the ecosystem of either platform (or even Windows for that matter).

Girls seem to have liked Palm too. UI preference I guess.

I'm not gonna make any predictions as I'm not good at it. BB seemed to be getting a good reception upon launch. The question is whether or not BB can continue this momentum. Early reports indicate that about half of the people who bought the first batch of BB Z10 phones were not existing BB users. Perhaps a good portion were former BB users. The data did not indicate whether or not this was the case. In any case, perhaps they can recapture part of the smartphone market they once held.

I would see the Z10 and other BB10 devices having more of an impact on Window Phone. WP has made little headway and was barely catching up to BB during the year an a bit that BB didn't release a single new device. Now that BB10 is out, BB has taken a leap forward. I see WP's advantage for business is its integration with MS Office. BB has always had that security and I always found it to be a good device for messaging and communications.

The biggest problem I see with BB10 is that it is so late to the market. Many people have switched away from BB devices. From what I have seen from BB10, I like it, but I did not see any killer feature that would make consumers jump at it. We'll have to see if BB's reputation for being a once big name player will be enough to keep it from fading into obscurity.
