Howdy all...

So yea .. as you may have figured I am the new guy. or at least one of em.
Just got a Samsung Mesmerize on US Cell network today. Been sitting playing with my new toy for about 3 hours and happy as can be. I upgraded from a BB Curve. My 1st thought was WOW is it nice to have a full featured browser.

So far I have hit the market and added some apps.. *yes I am a tinkerer, and gamer*..

Appbrain seemed a no brainer for finding apps.
ATK for killing processes quick and easy.
Dolphin browser.. someone said it was nice
and the usual Google reader, map, and Facebook stuff ...

Oh and finally can see what the hype is about with ANGRY BIRDS.. can see that one causing me some trouble at work...

So my biggest concern is Root. I must get rid of some of the USSC apps and well .. yea.. digging in the root and updating the firmware to 2.2 sounds like some fun.

Well this looks like the place to be to learn more about my new toy and ways that i can violate the warranty and just generally have some fun with it *takes me back to my days with the WinMo brick I had 6600*.....

Welcome to the Android Forums!

For what it's worth you really don't need ATK... and this will be doubly true when you install FroYo. More often than not apps like ATK kill processes that Android thinks it needs... so you end up in a loop where ATK kills the process and Android restarts it.

If you end up rooting your phone, consider not deleting the bloatware apps. Instead rename their .APK files to .BAK or .OLD. Doing this will remove them from your phone but when the next OTA update comes around you can simply rename them back to .APK and bypass whatever pre-install checks that the hardware manufacturer put in the update.
