Howdy, y'all!

Dan in SA

Lurker
Like I said, howdy!

My name is Dan (obviously  ) and I live in San Antonio, Texas, United States of America. I am a disabled veteran of the US Navy in which I was proud to serve, but a back injury forced me out of the service.

While in the Navy, I was taught just about every facet of IT except the coding part - my job was (and still is) to ensure the coders could do their jobs. The only programming I can do is some shell scripting in *nix to make some of my tasks easier.

I recently moved from a Nokia N95, my first ever smart phone, to an HTC Wildfire S. I was getting tired of the T-Mobile bloat and constant "low memory" messages because of it, so I set out to figure out how to root the phone. I stumbled across this forum in that search, and decided to register so I could learn a few things.

I'm about to go in for major back surgery and will have a 3 month recovery time that I'll need to keep myself busy during, some may as well figure out how to cook a ROM and/or theme it. So far, I've only tried Wildchild 3.3, but I don't really care for it so I'm going to throw CM9 on it tonight and try the HTC.Elegance theme over at XDA.

Welcome Dan, and thanks for your service to our country! I hope your surgery goes off without a hitch, and I promise we will be here to help you kill some time while you recover! Thanks for joining AF! :)

Dan, glad to have you and hope you enjoy the site.

Thanks for the warm welcome, fellas. I'm doing a lot of reading, but I haven't quite found what I'm looking for yet. I know I'm not supposed to ask here, but I will anyhow - Anybody know of a quick primer/tutorial on DIY ROMs?

Stigy, I've already found the WFS forum. In fact, it was the guide in WFS-All Things Root that I followed to finally get T-Mobile off of my phone ;)
