Apps HP 10.1 tablet not recognized by Android Studio

Running on Windows 7, can access both internal memory and SD card (using Windows Explorer) but when I try to run the app I am developing, Android Studio doesn't see any running devices. This is an HP model 10 2101 running Android 4.4.2
