Help HP TouchPad

srk12

Lurker
Hey folks,

I'd like to install Android OS on my HP TOUCHPAD, Please guide me. Would really appreciate that

Thanks

And, please do it! I'm in love with my tp! I paid less than $150 for my 16gb and I swear to you, it's the best $ I've spent in a long time! With ICS, it makes me wonder why HP won't resurrect it from the "dead" with android.

Planing on buying this for my wife...
But dont want spend that much..
Where you bought it off ebay or amazon

Actually, purely by chance at a local pawn shop. They had it priced at $159.00 with a 20% off sale. I just went to Best Buy yesterday and bought a Zagg case with bluetooth keyboard. Now, with the keyboard and mic working - I couldn't be happier! The case was actually for iPad 2 so it's not a perfect fit, but it works!

OK, please let me know if the switch to Android is worth it? I am bored of WebOS and I like to use the Camera, Mike & have stable wifi. What about audio quality? Very curious to get this on my TP.

0707 nightly (today's) has all the latest updates to wifi, microphone and stability.

Camera is not working and it's possible might not, but it is being worked on now.

Frankly, webOS IS boring, but you can use both after installing.

I think it is worth it. As was pointed out, you won't be able to use the camera but CM9 has been very stable for me. Also, as pointed out, you can boot back and forth between WebOS and ICS (Android 4), so you can have the best of both worlds.

Yes, I Agree!!! webOs is boring: all I used was an App called Kalemsoft to watch Two & A Half Men, Music Videos... even the hp Play was a let down: I just don't know what files to download for the Android installation.... but let me figure out... with ICS on my Galaxy S2, I am dying to have it on my TP...

The link takes me to nightly downloads: heard that Nightly downloads are not stable.. Is it OK to go for the nightly downloads?

Most of us are using them.

They get pretty stable when Release Candidates are close and we just missed having one for the Touchpad. :D

One more question: when upgrades are released, do I have to re-install the entire package or do we have to only apply upgrades?

When updating the same rom and a similar version (CM7 to CM7, CM9 to CM9), unless it says otherwise, you can usually just wipe cache, dalvik cache and update the rom. If it's been months since you updated, you should also flash gApps.

Many roms required a data wipe (aka factory reset) when they updated to the 4.04 Android version. Like I said, they usually will say when a wipe is required, but you won't necessarily see that with nightly builds. Best to make a backup in recovery before flashing.

When you wipe caches, the next boot will take longer, often minutes.

The acme scripts + moboot, cwm, etc is only needed the first time. After that you can boot into cwm or twrp and wipe caches and flash your rom.

Not that I am a novice: just want to ensure I am doing it right: I clicked on the link that says:
To install CyanogenMod (CM9) You'll also need to download the latest files from: CyanogenMod - RootzWiki. The installer and other files are updated periodically so it's best to redownload them each time you install. For that reason we don't link directly to them here.

I was able to download a content of about 127 MB, 0707version of the nightly build. I am not sure if I have downloaded the following files

  • Acme Installer (script file for Novacom, don't rename)
  • Latest version of CM9
  • Clockwork Recovery
  • MoBoot
Please help me!!! I know I am asking for too much. Don't want to brick the TP and hence want to do this very very carefully.

That should be acmeinstaller2, otherwise looks good.

The first install is intimidating. You don't normally have to install that much to put a rom on a device.

The more usual problem is the install just does not work because it can't find the novacom program.

You should open the zip files to make sure they are good downloads too. :D

WOW!!! YAHOOOOOO!!! I did it!!! I have brought back life into my Tablet.. Thanks colchiro for your advise: also a big thanks to Rev. Kyle... I am now gonna have fun with this beauty!!!
