HT-30A on NTT Docomo

My first experience was with my brother in law's Droid in the States. I got stationed in Japan and the HT-30A, is it ok if I just call it a Magic?, was free so it made the choice pretty easy. I love it. Can't decide if I want to root it yet. The only issues I have run across so far is short battery, Docomo gave me 2, and the lack of sort options in the Market. If rooting would address those then perhaps.
