Root HTC came shipped with ics

svz235

Android Enthusiast
So my preowned SV came in and I see that it came with 4.0, I was wondering if I can still get root when I update it to 4.1?

Ok another question, when 4.2 comes can i update it and still get root?

definitely yes, if there are any complications when it gets here......

we always find a fix,

but there and not any issues with any of the other guys with the OneSV variants that have already received the 4.2 update

they had an issue with twrp recovery not booting after the update but they just had to update the recovery.img and all works well....

Ooohh ok so I can stay unrooted until 4.2 arrives then and ill be fine?

Ooohh ok then just wanted to make sure cuz I have made that mistake one time of updating my phone and being unable to root, but thank you for telling me ahead of time I'm.going to.install.jelly bean now

yup you'll be completely safe....

if you want s-off you can use moonshine for ICS 4.0.4 and JB 4.1.2

and rumrunner for JB 4.2.2

Tbh I am new to s-off and all these other things that are required to root phones now, I upgraded from the LG Marquee and it was simple to root that phone so yea care to explain s-off, moonshine, and rumrunner?

when you boot your phone into bootloader mode

remove battery

install battery

hold volume-

press power

this will manually boot you into bootloader mode

it will say SHIP S-ON LOCKED
and a bunch of other important stuff, so go ahead and take a picture or at least right it all down

before your ever are able to get root, you'll have to unlock your bootloader following instructions at htcdev.com

once you've successfully unlocked your bootloader you now have freedom to flash custom boot.img(kernel) and custom recovery.img(CWM or TWRP)

once you've successfully flashed a custom recovery, now you have the freedom to flash custom ROMs, MODS, all that good stuff. BUT if you do not have S-OFF you'll have to use fastboot to flash the boot.img.

S-ON= security on
S-OFF= security off

htc makes everything a little more of a hassle, but moonshine.io team has given us S-OFF just Google moonshine s-off to find out more

rumrunner is a 'universal' s-off exploit that is known working for 4.2.2 developed by the same moonshine team.

it's quite a process, but take your time when your finally ready and read, read again, and read some more, and you'll do just fine when your ready for root, and maybe even s-off.

plus, if you ever run into any hiccups or questions during any process, there are very great guys always here to help.

yes, you can find most of what you need here in the all things root section, and if there is ANYTHING that you don't understand, either ask inside the topic, or feel free to send me a PM (private message) there is always someone here that would be glad to help.
