HTC can do voice + data on Verizon 3G!

The Evo and the Thunderbolt are not brother or sister phones, the Evo would be the Thunderbolt's little brother. The new V Thunderbolt sports 25% more RAM a 2nd generation Snapdragon (45nm) and surround sound. And to answer your question yes it can do voice + data over 3G, not to mention the battery life you'll be saving with that 2nd generation CPU these two phones aren't even in the same league other than in appearance. Sprint's Evo will never be able to do this as you need a LTE network or some sort of backward compatible gsm network to make it happen (Verizon's LTE network).

No details have been given on how it will do it...or even that it will consistantly do it correctly. This is why there has been no official anouncement from verizon. In theory....the evo would accomplish data and voice if the 4g network continues to grow at its current rate. (Much like it is speculated that there is an additional radio on the thunderbolt that will allow both actions)

Edit...didn't read the link right. thought is was on 4G.

Voice/Data over 3G (not 4G LTE) would be done over SVDO which is possible if Verizon equipted the proper radio(s) in the Thunderbolt. The Evo will never do 3G + Voice calls it's not equipt with the hardware for it.

Technically you are incorrect. The hardware is there, the coverage is not. Re read what I typed. An evo can make calls while the active data is accomplished on the 4g or wifi radio. I actually do that all the time. The 4g coverage is not yet at a point that one could rely on no, but in theory it can be at some point and time. I never said it could accomplish both via the cdma radio, which is what you are eluding to. We can speculate how the thunderbolt will do this all we want, but until more details are released no one knows for sure. Yes mythical svdo can do it...but what I have read leads to nothing but rumors. The evo actually does pretty well at toggling between data and calls on cdma until you are actually on a call. I believe there has been once that I was on a call and wanted to google something and couldn't. This really is a very minor thing and honestly only comes up because gsm providers use it so much as a selling point.

I surf/use data on Wimax while on calls all the time. I just did a one hour call while simultaneously surfing for that same hour. I've used Wifi for data while calling too, but today it was 4G+EVDO.

Now, I'm not sure I would even want to both on 3G. Data moves so much faster on Wimax that it would be literally painful to watch my network struggle carrying both at the same time.

why is GSM and verizon in the same sentence.

So you cracked open the EVO and confirmed it's not there?
