HTC desire 300 overheating

Ozmog

Lurker
Today my phone randomly restarted, I started it again and put it in my bag. After 30-40 minutes i took it back and it was super hot and had to remove battery. After it cooled off i turned it on again and it started overheating when nothing was on. Right now I got back home at started charging it from 0% battery but it again started to get warmer.

Update 1 : Now I see that not the battery is overheating, its the phone itself, above the battery pit and I don't even have mobile connection for phone calls, but it still asks me for PIN code when i restart my phone

What could be the reason and what can i do?

Asking for a PIN is nothing to do with having a mobile connection, it just means that you have enabled PIN security (if it's a SIM PIN it will ask that as long as the SIM is in the phone, if it's a phone PIN it will ask that regardless).

As for the real question, there are really only 2 possibilities: you have some rogue app that's running flat out (probably in the background rather than on screen) or the hardware has developed a fault. I'd try restarting in safe mode, which disables all user-installed apps. If it runs OK in safe mode then the problem is one of your apps. If it still overheats then it could be a system app (in which case you could see whether a monitor like System Panel can tell you which) or it could be a hardware fault.

If it overheats even with the phone turned off (i.e. when charging) that would mean a hardware problem, since no apps are running when it's turned off. I can't tell from your post whether that is the case or not. If this is the case the best hope would be that it's the battery, because that's the one thing that's simple to fix.

Either way I'd suggest backing up anything important if you can. If you can't identify a cause then at some point you're going to want to try a factory reset. And if it's a hardware problem (other than a bad battery) then you will lose any data that are not backed up: either the phone will fail completely, or if you get it repaired there's a good chance they'll replace the motherboard (taking your data with it), or just do a reset as part of the repair process. So if you have important data on there that are not backed-up I would try to get them backed-up if you can.

Well, I saved all the important data and made factory reset but even after that the result is the same. The problem is definitely not in the battery. After i cooled it off i can feel it heating somewhere between the battery and the slot for sim card, so its probably a hardware problem
