Help Htc Desire: boot android from SD

volar

Lurker
I've been using my HTC desire for over a year now and i'm extremely happy about it. However there is one huge flaw, there's only 150mb internal memory available.

Now i've been looking around on the internet and i read that you can Install an android ROM on an SD card partition, with android installed on the SD card, the internal memory would then also be on the SD card and much bigger.

I am quite good with computers etc but i do have a few questions regarding this topic though. It would be awesome if i could get some answers on these

  • Would i need a ROM at all or would it be possible to install my Android with HTC sense on the SD card? I really like the htc sense interface.
  • I have a 32 gig micro SDHC card, class 10. Would the fact that it is a SDHC card and not a regular SD card cause any problems doing this?
  • Could anyone point me towards some clear tutorials on installing Android on an SD? I've been looking around on the internet but didn't find any clear ones.
  • Will i be able to set as many internal memory as i want? (for example 2 gig) or are there still limits?

thanks in advance!

"only 150mb"? My old phones only had, what, 6mb! :)

You might need to investigate rooting your device first, but yeah, you can backup the rom to SD card (nandroid backup). You wouldn't be partitioning it like you said. You can move apps to the card however.

Also when rooted you can investigate the world of custom roms, some of which may actually be 'nandrod backups' that other people have made.
