Root HTC DESIRE EVERVOLV ICS - Booting takes loner time

hv2

Lurker
I installed HTC DESIRE EVERVOLV ICS. I was having probelm as
I can't install any new apps because I have no more space!
I am having an ext3 . I did following:

1. Open Terminal
2. Type the following:
su
a2sd install
3 it asked you to move the cache, choose yes and go to step 9.
4. Let the phone reboot 1 more time (Booting will take a lot longer the 1st time) and you're done!

After booting it is really taking longer more than 1 hr. Pl suggest.

Hi hv2, and welcome to AF :)

Ok, that's too long - anything more than 10 minutes is suspect.

Try pulling the battery out, leave it out for a couple of minutes, then reboot. See what happens.

If it doesn't boot you'll have to use recovery to fix it. If you have a recent nandroid backup you could restore that. Otherwise my guesses, not knowing full details of the state of the phone, would be either a factory reset or reflashing the ROM. One of those should get it going again.

As to why, it's hard to tell. What did you use to partition the card?

I have the same problem.... After first or second reboot it doesn't start and it remains in infinite loop and showing the screen with the word "evervolv"....
I have stock hboot, 4ext recovery and sdcard formatted in ext4 1024MB and theremaining in fat32....

Three people in three days with the same problem with the same ROM. That does make me suspect the ROM.

Is there any discussion of problems in the ROM's thread at xda?

Hey All,

When I had this problem, I checked the XDA ICS Sandvold thread and no one else had complained of the issue and I couldn't post in there as I haven't posted enough to meet the requirements.

Anyway, there is a lot of discussion in there now with different people providing different solutions - it is all because of the latest google play update. Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660&page=1666 for a solution I have used that doesnt require ADB etc.

Hope this helps!

Very thanks!! it works!!

Hi,

After following the guide at frenchtouch.pro, but not having enough technical knowledge to follow the last step, so i tried what hv2 said, and it worked great. I Installed a load of apps, and restarted the phone, booting was fast as ever, it all set up fine.

The only problem is that i cannot install any apps that rely on internal storage anymore, such as Facebook or other Web Browsers. When i download it downloads the install file, then tries to install it and says 'Insufficient storage available'.

I guess its because it relys on internal storage but now it cant access it? Any help anyone?

Not being able to access internal storage isn't it (the phone plain wouldn't work). But can you tell us how much internal storage you have free and in total? The phone won't install an app if that would leave less than 10% of the space free.

I assume your sd card is partitioned?

Yeah my SD card is partitioned, 12GB Main and something like 3GB partiton. I have 145MB free internally, 91.68 taken up by apps, so i guess that leaves like 54MB free...

The play store app isnt appearing on my apps list, at all, but i cleared the cache via App Manager 3 then tried to install Facebook, no success... Any other ideas?

Why haven't you got the Play Store?

If you are trying to install without it, have you got the "Unknown Sources" option selected in the Applications menu?

Ok, i've tried clearing the Play Store cache and all that, still no success... Can i install these apps without using the play store?

If you have the apk you can try, as long as you have the "unknown sources" option ticked in the applications menu.

This does all seem very strange. You have the space. You say there are some apps you can't install - does that mean that you can install others? Just trying to work out the situation here.

I'm wondering about suggesting taking backups (Titanium and a nandroid), trying a factory reset, then seeing whether you can install the apps. But hoping some less painful ideas occur to me first....

Hm im not too sure how to manually install apps so i'll give it a look up, cant be too hard right?

But yes it seems like i can install apps that you can manually move to SD, such as games, but then when i try to install something that needs 'deeper' phone permissions like Facebook or a battery widget or internet browser then i can't...

Yes i'd rather not start all over again, but if its totally necessary then i guess i can... I only just reset my phone after a month to try what hv2 said to get more space

Odd that you mention browsers, because they are nothing special. Indeed any browser I've tried can be moved manually to sd. Otherwise I was going to suggest checking that you've not set default install location to sd (and maybe some apps didn't like that). Note that I'm not referring to an ext partition here, but the normal "move to sd" method.

There is a thread on setting install location in the hints and tips forum. I know some system info apps can show this, but can't currently think which.

I've restarted my phone and installed Opera Mini, so that seems to be working fine now, however i still cannot install a Battery Widget or Facebook... When i go into Apps in Settings and go to Downloaded, it says '-34798592.00..' then '181MB free' a little later, is this relevant?

But don't worry, i'll give up soon, thanks for all your help Hadron :D
