HTC Desire Facebook problem

I was getting inbox notifications as text messages from Facebook. Now I get all my notifications sent to my phone except for the inbox ones. It started happening after a software update.

Your issue may be connected with the Facebook site itself - they regularly update things. One optiion may be to visit your Facebook page and view your account settings. I was getting new notifications recently and found that the Facebook site had been updated and the notifications had changed.
