Help Htc desire hd, gps annoying

sorry if this has been asked but i cannot find any that have had the same issue.
my gps is always trying to find me, i turn it on and all, but it just wants me to buy a voucher, and when i do manage to fluke and shut it down, it starts up randomly.
its become really bad that it now takes prioity over my texting or calls and i can barely use my phone.
ive tryed to force stop it, and i deleted all the maps contents which worked for a while. but now it just drains my battery like lightning.

any ideas?

This sounds like a common problem that has been being experienced since the last update came out for the Desire HD... have you had the update? (just looking for a thread that I can link you to, so you don't think you're crazy :))

Just found another thread that is the exact same problem you've been having... the member who started the thread got the answer from HTC.

Once you've done what HTC have said, you may also need to clear the cache of the locations app (as per further down in the same thread) :)
 
I there, I solved this on my phone by getting a new power cable. I used an official HTC charger instead of the cheap one I was supplied with and the problem stopped immediately.

I've had my DHD for around 18 months now and the GPS has been flaky after around the third month. I know that the antenna connectin is dodgy, tapping the flash plate on the back sometimes triggers an almost instant GPS lock... but sometimes not.

When it doesn't, monitoring with GPSStatus can show up to 8/8 satellite locks and still it says "Searching for GPS" for up to 30 minutes, so that's down to the software probably.

I am currently discussing with UK Consumer Direct as they have not provided the service that I am paying for... of course, you get passed off between your network provider and HTC and I can't been without my phone for a month while they 'fix' it. I can't see 'Occasional GPS' in the description of the phone.

Finally, when it is all working, it loses GPS lock at the most problematic times, for example when finding closed roads in London!

Will never buy from HTC again as this has been going on for months and months with no permanent fix in sight.
