HTC Desire HD messages to Alcatel 995

G'day guys

I have an HTC Inspire 4g (Essentially a Desire HD but 4g afaik)

I'm looking to buy an Alcatel 995 as my Htc is very battered and no longer worth keeping.

Now, On my HTC i have the option in Messages to go 'Backup SMS'

Which backs up to a file on my microSD card

Is it possible for me to do the opposite with the Alcatel and simply 'Restore' from that file?

As i'd like to keep all my messages and i have around 90~ conversations in my inbox all under each individual contact like iPhone etc..

Any ideas/ advice would be great!

Thanks

Jono

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!
what messaging app do you use? if you use the same one then it should be fine to do that.

Cheers! I was on an HTC forum but that seemed very dead..

I just use the standard messaging App on HTC Desire..

The backup part is part of that and the stock phone not a 3rd party app or anything

Might be worth trying a message backup app from the Play Store, just in case the HTC one is HTC specific (very likely, as my stock message app doesn't have this option).

If you are ok with the cloud then SMS Backup+ can back them all to your Gmail account, and you could restore over the air to the new phone. Otherwise there are many which will back up to sd.

i use go sms and it has a backup feature where you can save them to the sd card. any of the apps like that will work. using the stock app might not work on other devices like hadron said.

Thanks guys!

So by using go sms, Will that restore on the other phone in the normal format? Like each message under the individual persons name?

Hey guys!

I downloaded a free app from the app/ play store called "Sms backup and restore"

Backed up to MicroSD and then put the card in the Alcatel and went restore.

It completed fine after about an hour of adding the messages (26000+ texts)

So now the Alcatel is sitting on "Refreshing..." with a scrolling icon

Been about an hour.. It's not frozen i'm thinking it's just the large number of texts maybe that's making it take so long?

um yeah that is a lot of texts you got there!!!!!

i think you are right with that many it could take a while. also it will depend on the speed of your card as well. most are class 4 cards. for me i always use class 10 cards.

It's worked!! It's prefect. Very happy. My only bad thought about it is any attachments (picture/ video) do not appear to have transfered.. But i'm happy none the less!

That message count is in about 6 months, Pretty crazy really considering i use facebook messenger more than anything else!!

I think you're right about the Class of card as well, I come from a world of DSLR's and an interest in graphic design/ photography so i get where what you mean.

But i defiantly recommend this app!

ICS however is not ideal..

Any ideas why there are so many background app's running ALL the time?

Even when you kill them, give it 5 mnutes and there are 10 more.. Like maps etc

I use ES Task Manager

It always has "Bluetooth Services" "Media Container Service" and "Com.android.smspush" on

Yet, Everytime i re-open it, even after not using any other app's/ widgets there's heaps running..

My main concern is that it'll use Data.. Is this the case?

Also i'm only left with around 110M available memory.. My HTC had 300+

i never use any task killers and i do not have any apps that uses data like that. do you use bluetooth a lot? you can just leave bluetooth off.

not sure on media container service or the other one.....but those are system apps and need to be running. but if you read the article those will only run when it needs to. i would not worry about those.

are you having battery life issue? or is it just memory issues?

Bluetooth is off yet that still remains

Battery life is okay, Nothing amazing but i've learned that from previous 'Smart phones'

It's more the fact i only 100mb of free memory that's the worrying part

that should be plenty to run the phone. now if that is all you have and you need more room for things on your phone then that is different.

After 10 minutes at idle this is my list:

Available memory: 59M

Bluetooth Services
Dictionary Provider
Gallery (Widget)
Google Search (Widget)
Google+ (Widget)
Key Chain
Maps (Widget)
Media Container Service
MusicFX
Package Installer
Settings (Widget)
TouchPal Input
com.android.smspush
Onetouch Support..

All that opens on its own, and after a google a few people have reported fairly high data usage simply from this

well this is what is running on my phone according to es task manager:
go sms pro (did not use it)
google account manager (did not use it today)
google search(did not use it today)
google+(did not use it today)
jorte(did not use it today)
beautiful widgets(did not use it today)
.........and so on

i have 12 apps running. of course my ram is way more then yours.

you can't help it. they will keep running and by killing them then you might effect the phone in that it will always work harder to get those apps up and running when it needs to and thus could kill battery life. it will be a never ending battle.

now i'm not that familiar with your phone, but if it is like the evo 4g (the original) which had something like 500mb of ram to start with, you are going to be miserable unless you root the phone. and it seems that there is not much support for your phone as far as rooting it goes.
