I've just purchased the above phone on PAYG (used to have iPhone 3g) My PC doesn't seem to recognise it. I plug in the USB lead and have downloaded the sync but it says I need t connect the phone, I also want to add realtones to personalize my friends but don't know how to........

I am not familiar with the HTC sync software but generally you should install the sync software first and then plug in your phone. The specific drivers for the phone are usually included with the sync suite.
The easiest way to connect the phone however is to simply enable mass storage. When you plug your phone in to the PC using the USB cable, you should see a notification when you pull down the notification bar that says "USB connected". Tap on that an enable USB storage. When you do that your phone should appear on your PC as a flash drive. Just copy files to and from it like any other removable storage device.
