HTC Desire Lock/power on button

i changed the lcd screen on my htc (because it broke) and now every time i turn on my htc with the power button, it seems to be working perfectly until my phone locks its self when not in use. i cant unlock it because the button does not respond to lock/unlock anymore. but the button works because it turns the phone on/off. so when it goes into lock mode the whole phone turns off and then i need to restart it. now i dont know what to do. i think its because of the new screen. does anyone know how to fix it?

You say "Desire" in the title, but the tags say "Desire C". Which device do you have? That will help us direct you to the best place to get advice.

Does the phone not respond to the power button, or does the screen simply not come on? What happens if a call comes in while the screen is off - does it wake, or stay black (and does it ring)? I can't see why the power button might behave differently when you change screen, so it seems more likely to me that it's just the screen not waking.

I don't have any specific suggestions, except perhaps to check that the screen contacts are good and that you didn't disturb anything else during the repair.

Thank you for the warm welcome, the desire i have is the Desire C, the phone wont unlock after it automatically locks. i cant lock or unlock the phone but i can switch the phone on and off. one other thing i have noticed is that it unlocks when i plug the phone in to charge and when i am receiving an incoming call.
