htc desire locked

Daughter has managed to get her phone locked as her "friends" attempted to work out her combination. Don't know the googlemail account. Switched phone off but comes straight back up as needing to log in
Can anyone help?

Without knowing the gmail account password, I think the only solution is to do a factory reset and wipe the phone.
