HTC Desire on Orange but want to use a O2 Simcard

Guys,

I have a HTC Desire on the Orange network but i want to use it with my O2 simcard. The handset is locked to the Orange network but this has been overcome by using a Turbo sim i had knocking around so I can now make calls but not use any data. I have tried manually inputting the settings by creating a new APN but each time i save what i have inputted the APN doesn't show. I have several times tried 'Menu' then 'Save' but it doesn't save.

Any thoughts or assistance would be very much appreciated.

Cheers :)

Orange will happily supply you with an unlock code, whether or not you are within your min contract term, for the cost of

Cheers GSMGuy

I'm happy for the moment using a Turbo sim, thanks for making me aware of that anyway.

The setting I am using are

Mobile Web:
Name: o2
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
MCC: 234
MNC: 10

MMS:
Name: MMS
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 243
MNC: 10

Once I have entered these and selected Menu then Save the new APN does not appear.

Any thoughts?

No they ain't the settings that I got. Bear with me and ill post what I'm using. I did read though that if your. With another carrier, you need to delete there apn settings,

Ok here's what I got.

Before you change anything, this is what I'm now seeing.

name. O2 MOBILE WEB
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
proxy not set
port not set
username o2web
password password
server not set
mms port not set
mms protocol WAP 2.0
MCC 234
MNC 10
auth type not set
APN type default

however, I think that these settings have "changed" somehow from the ones I entered?!?!

MMS
I had to enter a second apn
name o2 MMS
APN wap.o2.co.uk
proxy http://wap.o2.co.uk
port 9201
username o2wap
password password
server http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
mmsc http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
mms proxy 193.113.200.195
mms port 8080
mms protocol WAP 2.0
MCC 234
MNC 10
authentication type not set
apn type mms

These are the settings that I'm seeing. For info I've got 2 other apns that I was messing around with. I think it's odd that I really don't believe they were how I inputted them (apn type, didn't give me those options) but somehow theve changed? MMS Internet etc etc works fine. I struggled for ages, but the settings that I did put in I got from this site. I searched under o2 mms settings. I think the guy had a hero, but it's good for me!;)

You are a star however each time I select 'Home' then 'Save' to save the new APN it doesn't and all i am presented is a blank screen.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I had same issue. I added a new apn, select save once you've typed it out. Not anything else. Then I used the back key somehow? Its odd I went round in circles for ages to. Also it gives full res pics and full hsdpa in case you found that other post and where worried it wouldn't be fully fit.
Let me know if you find a dexcent keyvoarfd or something like the catch-up!

Hey, i've got an Orange desire which i got unlocked by htccodes.com and then i stuff my o2 sim in it. I was a simplicity iphone plan and i entered these settings:

Name data
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
proxy not set
port not set
Username Vertigo
Password password
server http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
mmsc http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
mms Proxy 193.113.200.195
mms port 8080
mms protocol WAP 2.0
Mcc 234
MNC 234
MNC 10

I dont think these setting are correct for MMS but i never use it. They do work however for data.

Yeah agree those work for data, but I like giving my mates the bird via mms. Your pressing the menu key after typing it out and you get the option to save right.

haha.

Yeah they seem to save as long as it has a name and a value in the apn box.

I thinking maybe i cant send mms because o2 think i have an iphone 2g, which everytime i tried to setup mms on it through jailbreak and requested the settings they would msg me to say i couldnt do this as i had the iphone 2g. try texting MMS to 1010.

I dont want to give this a try as ive already given them my pac code.

let is know how you get on

could be.

fyi if you wanna go down unlocking route i can recommend htccodes. Though is a bit more complicated than a standard phone as its more expensive, shoch horror. Code the code in under 10mins though

I tried that text message to o2 but within seconds they replied no way!
Have you tried deleting the orange apn? I read a guy on vodaphone was stuck till he deleted it?

So i just managed to flash mine with the generic rom, then when the setup wizard ran it saved data apn settings for o2 to my phone, maybe you should try that, its in the applications menu called setup.
