Help HTC desire problems (rebooting and loss of reception)..

Hi all....I seem to have started having problems with my HTC desire phone lately. It has a stock vodafone rom (android 2.2.2). It has started to restart itself a lot and also lose signal/loss of reception. I have done a factory reset which made no difference. I have also tried running the phone with no SD card inserted this also made no difference.
I have upgraded the ROM to 2.3.3 (downloaded from HTC developer site) this also made no difference still experiencing loss of signal/reception and randon phone rebooting.
What else can i try to fix the issue or do i need to replace the phone now as it is out of warranty? I have had this phone since new and have never rooted it or used any custom roms on it
Thanks in advance guys :)

Do you have another SIM you could try (or buy a PAYG SIM to test)?

The 2.3 update will have replaced your radio firmware as well as the ROM, so between that and a factory reset we can pretty much rule out software. You've tried without the sd card, so that leaves SIM, network or hardware.

I put my sim in my old phone a nokia n96 and it works fine on that. I have also run the HTC desire with no sim in it and it rebooted itself after an hour or two.

So sans SIM probably rules out network too.

Was it rebooting when sitting idle, or wete you exercising the cpu (eg running games)?

The one replaceable component left is the battery, but it doesn't sound like that to me.

It was sat idle after i used the internet. Having upgraded to 2.3.3 it has rebooted less frequently but with the sim in it losted reception a lot.
