Help HTC desire screen not coimng on after trying to flash to non branded OS

192DOT168

Lurker
I used a guide from the HTC desire section to first create a gold card and then try to change the firmware for my HTC desire, the gold card seemed to create just fine, during the upgrade i got a greyscale HTC on the screen with a progress bar, it finished and then the screen went black.
The Firmware was
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865 for my HTC desire. the phone was branded by Orange but had been unlocked to allow other sims to be used. I understand this had been done using a code from a repair shop and followed the same process as HTC would have but at less cost.

I apologize for the newbie thread but i cannot find a similar issue online. the phone will turn on and can even accept calls, with the screen being off though i am unable to answer the call or select the HTC sync mode when connecting via USB. same goes for HBOOT it does not bring the screen to life either. I have had this phone for some time and it would be a shame if i had to replace it.

thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Wm

Hmm, that is a truly ancient software version. I've seen other reports of people having problems after trying such software - my guess is that your hardware is newer than that software and might not be properly supported by it.

If you are trying to debrand a phone why not try the official android 2.3 upgrade? That will not only remove all Orange branding, but Orange will still respect your warranty (if still in warranty period). You can download this from shipped-ROMs, file name HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade.zip (near the bottom of the page). Download it, unzip it, and you'll find the ruu .exe in there as well as a few other bits and pieces.

As to how to run it with the screen off, you could try this: shut the phone down (pull battery out to be sure), then boot the phone while pressing the "back" button. If you can't see what's happening, keep pressing the back button for 10-15 seconds, which should be more than enough time. Then connect the phone to your PC and try running the RUU.

If you don't fancy 2.3 for some reason (and I can't think of one myself), then I'd suggest RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe as the newest World Wide English (unbranded) Froyo RUU, from the same site.
