Help HTC Desire stuck in boot loop and won't recover

Sorry, I know this is a common problem but have tried some suggestions and my phone still doesn't work.

My HTC Desire started showing low memory then randomly yesterday google play changed to market, and I don't know if it's related but Viber was wiped from my phone but it didn't free up any internal memory. As much stuff as is possible is on my SIM card (except for my contacts I have discovered!!!). Anyway, my storage manager kept saying I had between 100 and 500KB memory. I took it to an Orange/EE shop to see if there was anything they could do and when I tried to turn it on in the shop it just kept going round the htc/Orange screens. I've tried holding down the vol down button and power button, then selecting recovery but it just shows a black screen with a phone and a red warning triangle over it. I tried to get into safe mode by holding down menu and power buttons, but again, it just goes into the boot loop. What can I do if anything and is there any way of saving my contacts if the phone is dead? I have a googlemail account (if I can remember the password) - would they be saved there?!

I'd be so grateful if anyone can help.

Remove the back cover & pull the battery out. Leave it for a while then reinsert the battery. Hold volume down & press power like you did before which will take you to the bootloader menu. Rather than selecting recovery there should be a Clear storage option there. Scroll down with the volume key & select it with the power key & that will factory reset your phone.

What you can get back is determined by what you had backed up. If your contacts are google contacts they will come back when you re-enter your account details on log in but you will need that password. All files on your sd card will be safe.

You will find that your memory will fill up again very quickly though. The best long term fixes for this can be accessed by rooting the phone. See the all things root subforum.
