Hello everyone.
I just got an HTC Desire from a family member and I would like to update to Gingerbread. As far as I know this phone is stock with no root or anything like that.
I downloaded the official Gingerbread update from htcdev.com, but every time I try to run the exe file, it gets as far as "Rebooting to Bootloader" and then I get a windows error:
ROM UPDATE UTILITY has stopped working. Then the updater closes. I have set the phone to HTC sync as well as disk drive when connecting via USB. The only way I can even get the updater to run is to put the phone into disk drive mode.
I installed HTC Sync, and the drivers for the phone are present on my system.
My PC is running Windows 7. I have tried using various compatibility options as well as running the program as admin.
Here is more info on the phone:
Firmware - 2.1 update1
Baseband - 2.05.10.08.11
Kernel - 2.6.29
Build - 1.26.573.0
Software - 1.26.573
The carrier HAD been US Cellular. It is currently not activated pending I can update it.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
