All,

I was running CM10 stable and decided to try out CM11. It would not sideload and I found a thread saying I needed a newer TWRP. I installed Philz (based on cwm 6.0.4.5). CM11 installed OK, but was acting funny, services failing, etc. So I did Data/Factory reset, wiped cache & dalvik, etc. but also wiped /data and /data/media and wanted to reinstall clean with no evidence of previous installs or app data. Now I can't do anything except boot into recovery or fastboot. Philz works and I can get to install zip from sideload option. When I try to upload, I get this:

C:\Users\TheOther1\Downloads\Android 4.4>adb.exe sideload cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-dlx.zip
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found

I can do fastboot, but don't think that will help me. I have reloaded Philz from fastboot and it worked. :dontknow: I'm thinking when I wiped /data, not only did I remove su, something that allowed me to talk to that partition was removed. Not only that, I have no backups now...

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

UPDATE: Fixed!
I got it fixed!

I did the following:




  1. fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-dlx
  2. Reboot into recovery and TWRP came up
  3. adb sideload cm-10.2.1-dlx
  4. It installed and I rebooted into CM-10
  5. Copy philz_touch_6.12.8-dlx.zip, aromafm-1.91.zip and cm-11-20140212-NIGHTLY-dlx.zip to storage
  6. Reboot into recovery
  7. Installed philz_touch_6.12.8-dlx
  8. Reboot into recovery
  9. Installed aromafm-1.91
  10. Reboot into recovery
  11. Installed cm-11-20140212-NIGHTLY-dlx.zip
  12. Reboot into CM11
  13. Copied gapps-full-4.4.2-20131212-signed-Kaydin-WithGDialer-WithPhotoSphere.zip to storage
  14. Reboot into recovery
  15. Installed gapps-full-4.4.2-20131212-signed-Kaydin-WithGDialer-WithPhotoSphere.zip
  16. Reboot into CM11


Now I am getting popups that say "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". It worked for an hour or so just fine before I installed gapps-full-4.4.2-20131212-signed-Kaydin-WithGDialer-WithPhotoSphere.zip so I think I will try the gapps-modular-mini-4.4.2-20131212-signed-Kaydin.zip and see how that works.



I think one of the issues was that PhilZ REQUIRES aromafm to function properly. I saw that nowhere in the docs, but saw someone mention they installed aroma and everything worked.



At least I know I can get an OS reinstalled and my stress level has dropped tremendously!



If someone else ends up in this situation, I hope this can help them get their phone back to an operational state.

You might try using twrp to install cm and gapps. I'm running cm11 on my DNA with the recomended gapps and have had zero issues.

Sounds like an issue with your philz recovery

Hey Scotty85,
PhilZ required aroma to allow sideload, for some reason... I couldn't ever get TWRP to install CM11. Several folks here have had the same experience.

Did you grab gapps from here? If so, which version did you use? The mini modular worked for me.
 
No,I had used the 20140105 kit kat gapps from goo,linked in the op. Glad you found one that's working for you :cool:
 
Press and hold the power button - that will force a shutdown.

Beyond that it's a matter of what happens when you try to reboot (does it boot or not), and what happened before this started (any software mods, updates, or has it ever got wet, for example)?
 
I held the power button down for 2 minutes and then tried power + vol down for 2 minutes. My fingers went numb both times and it is still on. Any other suggestions??:confused:
