Htc dream update for mac user -- help?!

First off, is anyone else having this problem with the update? and to make matters worse they've started redirecting my outgoing calls to rogers customer service! they constantly tell me there is nothing that can be done to help me yet i do not understand how the instructions for the mac update is.

here are the instructions they e-mailed me:
[SIZE=+1]1) Download the HTC_Dream_Update.zip and extract the file within, DREAIMG.nbh to the root of the microSD card.
2) Backup your personal data: All personal data (contacts, applications, photos, bookmarks, etc) stored on the device will be lost after the update process. There are 3rd party applications on Android Market that can back up your applications and personal data.
3) Power off the device.
4) Remove the microSD card from your device (if you have one already installed), press in on the microSD card to eject it and then remove it from the slot.

5)Insert the microSD card with the DREAIMG.nbh on it in the microSD slot, slide it into the slot until you feel a

I'm on a Magic, not a Dream...but I am running a Mac FWIW.

The problem may be that the
[SIZE=+1]DREAIMG.nbh is not on the root of your microSD card. I'm not sure you can get it there by just copying over. Also, other instructions have said that nothing else can be on the microSD - just the new file. I bought a clean microSD card, used the USB adapter that came with it to load the file directly onto it, powered down my phone, swapped cards and then followed the various instructions on which buttons to press.

Many more experienced people than me on this site...but if that helps...

Best of luck

okay wait, that makes sense, but i have a few questions.
so i can purchase an additional and clean memory card right (im assuming at rogers) and from there how exactly is it that i can put the file on to it? do i put it in my phone and plug it in to the computer and mount it etc? im still really confused regarding how to properly get the file there and what the 'root' means exactly.

you can pick up new 2gig micro sd cards from just about anywhere, even your local Walmart will carry them. If you don't have a card reader just make sure that you get one that includes a usb adapter. Plug the micro sd either into your card reader or use the usb adapter and plug into any open usb port on your Mac. Copy the file over to the (root) of the SD card. by (root) we mean don't put the file into any sort of directory(folder). It has to be at the top of the directory tree.

its still not working. i have only the DREAING.nbh thing on my sd card, and i turn off my phone, hit the camera button and power on and nothing prompts me for a restart.
what is a card reader? i just deleted everything off my sd card leaving just that file on it.

if it helps, i called rogers and the guy said i have to format the memory card as it might not be formated? how do i do this? ughhh **** rogers and **** this.

okay so i can't format my card in FAT32. just FAT and journaled? journaled doesn't work and neither does FAT. do i buy a card formated in FAT 32? and how the hell do i know if it is?

The one I bought said FAT32 on the packaging. Got it at "The Source" though Best Buy or Staples or Walmart etc will have them, as GreatBigDog said...

Yes, you are right - it is an enormous pain in the butt and there is no good reason why you should have to go through all this crap. But that's Rogers fine Customer Service for you...and remember, as a Mac user, that service is EVEN WORSE (at no extra charge).

thank you so much for your help. the tech reps really ought to be better trained for this shit. thank god i found this site or i would be still completely lost lol
i'll head out to the source later and do just that! thanks again, both of you! :]

I feel your pain. When I called Rogers on the Weekend Of The Change, the CSRs had no clue what to say to a Mac user except - "keep monitoring the website". That was obviously pointless - but I found much useful information posted by generous people here...

If you call them I think they will send you a pre-formated SD card. As long as the Mac can read/write to it then you can follow the steps for update. Works on Linux so also should work on Mac.

I have an HTC dream phone I cant find a backup applications to be able to up date de soft ware...

I hate I cant figure out what to do I have a Mac not a PC
