Hi all. My wifes droid eris is having an issue with voice sound. When calling or receiving a call on her eris, she can hear person on other line fine but they can't hear her. I tried messing with it and made sure its not in mute and checked everything i could think of. did battery pull, a factory reset, nothing. If i speak into phone while on calling mode i can hear my own voice, kind of like speaking into a karaoke machine. I can hear music and everything coming from the phone. The problem is that voice sound does not travel out of the phone . Any help would be greatly appreciated. According to settings, the software installed on phone is 2.1 . We got this phone used and dont know if it was upgraded or if thats the factory software. according to wife, she never plugged in earphones to jack or anything. had phone for about a year and this is first time this happened. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

That sounds like the old silent audio bug.

Can you check to see if it is rooted? Look in the app drawer for an app called "Superuser" or "SU" or go into settings->about phone and list the build number.

That's the latest update, so that's good. What is the "Baseband version" in settings->about->software information? I'm wondering if you have an old baseband. Probably not - but worth a check. (The latest is 2.42.01.04.27).

Also, if your wife restarts the phone, does it behave normally if she places a call right away? Or does this happen all of the time? It's possible that it's a bad microphone.

Ya. Its the same number. Also.tried calling after tirning off and on and placing call right.away but still same thing

Is it possible that she is holding the phone with her hand blocking the top half of the back of the phone while she is talking? This used to happen to me - when I talked to people, if my hand was clutching the phone in such a way that it was blocking the top part of the back of the phone, people would tell me that they could not hear me. This is the part of the phone where the microphone is.

If this is not the problem, I can think of only two things:

- factory reset the phone to see if that solves the problem
- if that doesn't work, it sounds like a hardware failure

tried factory reset but no change. tried the "sticking a headphone end into the jack" and i hear static at times but doesnt resolve issue. i'm now trying to reload software 2.1 to it see if that helps. if not i will unscrew and take a look at the microphone see if soemthing has become detacched. dont really know what to exepct to see once i take it apart but worth a shot. any suggestions would be appreciated.
