Help htc eris usb pc mounting issues

I have a Droid Eris, some specs from 'about phone':
firmware: 2.1
baseband: 2.42.01.04.27
kernel version: 2.6.29-bcb140a0
software number: 2.41.605.6
pri version: 2.11_002
prl version: 52642

my problem started yesterday after i maybe got the phone a little wet (tho it dried thoroughly next to the heater). i tether my phones internet to my computer and when i plugged in via usb cable last night neither the phone nor the computer (a toshiba running windows 7) recognized the device as being plugged in. by this i mean that the eris does not show the usb debugging (tho it is enabled) or usb symbol in the notifications bar, and the computer does not assign a drive letter to the phone (tho it is set to run as a disk drive). i have been able to find the error from the computer end by rooting around in the device manager and it says that the phone is at fault (error code 43, subcode 0000002b). I have restarted both computer and phone several times. uninstalled all my usb drivers. restored my factory settings on the droid three times (twice from the power-down root menu method, and one through the settings menu while the os was running). the phone has the same problem when plugged into a different computer. i will try a different cord if i can get my hands on one. i have a feeling that this cord is working properly because the phone (for some crazy unexplained reason) will charge while plugged in.

need help, can provide more information. have done some poking around, do i need to update os to something involving a cinnamon man? root?

Welcome to Android Forums, mareraydiff. Sorry to see you got your Eris wet.

I think that and the dry-by-heat method of getting rid of the moisture could well have caused the issues you're seeing. Heat and water damage can cause problems anywhere and everywhere in a device like these smartphones.

The best way to get water out of a doused device is to quickly submerge it into a container of dry, uncooked rice, and then leave it there for at least 8 hours, preferably 12 or more.

There are several things you can try to do to restore functionality, but I fear real damage after seeing you say that you put it next to heat/warmth upon getting it wet. The heat only drives moisture further into the mechanism/electronics, boards and components, and is a common mistake.

A different cable, as you say, may help.
