Root HTC EVO 4G - Does not load - loops

I have an HTC Evo 4G that I downloaded and flashed a kernel and now I can not get it to boot. I did see another post to hold the power button and the down volume and got to a screen that got to the revolutionary screen. My phone is rooted to Boost with the Mikrom. I do not want to recover it until I hear from one of the experts on this site, I do not want it back to factory as I am afraid it will no longer work on boost....can you please help?

The Kernel I am looking for the name of the kernel i flashed it was a poo - something .....that's exactly what it was for me!!! :) POO!!!

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forums!
The volume down/power button combo brought you to the bootloader screen.
When you flashed the kernel, it should be flashed from recovery...accessable thru bootloader.
You need to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing kernel
I really dont know what kernel you wanted---poo?---:)
Just need to make sure you use a kernel for a sense rom, which is what mik is.
How did you flash the kernel in the first place?
If you can get into the recovery screen, you will be fine.
Anthrax kernel works well with mikG rom.

I flashed it with the Kernel Manager - and I don't really need the kernel I do not think - how can I get rid of that kernel and go back to the way it was before???? I am new at this rooting thing so if you can be specific I would really appreciate - I am loosing it without my phone :) Thanks for your help and your prompt response!

o.k...no problem
Can you first tell me if you can get to recovery?
Power phone down...then volume down/power button to get into bootloader
...highlight recovery and push power button to select...then tell me what recovery version you have...(just tell us what's on the screen)
If you have mikG, do you know what version it is? If not that's ok.
I will link a kernel for you that you can download and install via recovery, not kernel manager...not fond of apps installing kernels/roms etc.
When you are in bootloader, also take note of the hboot version and tell us also if you are s-off or s-on and post that info
:)

It is recommended that you use a different recovery. But we can worry about that later for now we need to get your phone up and running.

I would suggest the AnthraX kernel. You can download it here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63060876/EVO 4G/AnthraX-2.6.38.8-REV_zzzTESTzzz009.zip
You can also download it from your phone if you dont have a charger or card reader available

Download it, put it on the SD card, and then reboot into recovery as you did above

Select wipe
Wipe Cache two times
Wipe Dalvik Cache two times (I believe dalvik cache is found under advanced in clockworkmod)

After that back out to the main menu and select flash, flash from SD, and then select the Anthrax Kernel and install it.

After that reboot and your done.

Thanks Rx...crazy at work at the moment...:)

Ok - so I could not get that onto my phone just yet - so I thought that I would add the old kernel that I had on there - it only affected my camera and videos - and then I was going to download the file you gave (I can not get into my operating system to download from my phone).

so...I went to the recovery -> choose zip from sdcard ->download -> netarchy-toastmod-4.3.1-cfs-nohavs-nosbc-uni -> yes - to install -> reboot ->go back -> reboot now.....now it does get into the phone somewhat....it does not do the mikrom flash thing anymore it says android and then opens a screen that is black and white with MIK many times diagonal across the screen ...on the top it shows 3G and the signal bars with the bat life and the time but no apps and it will not do anything else.....

You didnt mention about wiping, must wipe cache and dalvik cache a couple times before flashing kernel as Rx said.
I would try it again and wipe before flash.
You said you have had that kernel on there before? I wasn't sure if that kernel is for sense roms or not. But if you had it before, o.k....just wipey wipey!:)

The reason that netarchy toastmod kernel isn't working very well us because is Is a Froyo kernel and mikg is gingerbread.

They aren't really compatible. That's why one of the reasons why programs like that aren't recommended

Thanks you guys - I will try with the kernel you gave once I can get a card reader, It still has that mik diagonal across the screen....i can call the phone and it will ring but I can not answer it :(.....I will keep you posted!

I am just too cheap to buy cable tv and was mirroring my phone with hdmiwin....it suggested that kernel....do you use hdmi win and what kernel do you recommend for it to work? (if any)

I forgot to mention you can mount the phone to the computer via USB cord through the recovery menu.

I know the freedom kernel has hdmi support but I assume anthrax does as well

I am sorry - but I am excited to learn more about how this phone works....I hooked up the cord to the computer, but my computer tells me that there is a problem with the hardware....

How would I go about doing this?

Reboot into recovery first, then hook up the USB and there should he an option somewhere to mount sd card or toggle USB storage.

oK, i did get the anthrax kernel loaded but while wipping the dalvik i did get an error that said e:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
file exisist....

the phone is loading the same as previous with no icons.

Well then were gonna have to change recoveries. I'm nit familiar enough with cwm to help. Go to the rooting for dummies guide gingerbread edition. You can find it in the sticky at the top of the forum. Skip to the life after root section and there's a step by step spot for getting you switched to amon ra recovery

Ok i will do that but i can not figure out how to uncheck fastboot

I believe in MikG there is no option for that, it's automatically unchecked.
I'm pretty sure of it.

Ok i was able to update my recovery....clear all cache including davilk and now.... i flashed the anthrax kernel and I try to reboot the system and it keeps going into the revolutionary screen....It does say skipping format sdext:dalvik-cache

Hmm...that could be because your sd card is not partitioned. Do you know if that is the case? I don't think I would worry about that now....as long as you have a new recovery, you be good girl!
So, after rebooting in recovery, it boots back into the bootloader screen?
Thats odd.
