Root htc evo 4g is miserable

I had a Samsung galaxy s4 but it broke and my friend had a back up EVO. I was like great free phone but omg its terrible. I HAVE to root it or its just not gonna work out between us. I am having trouble finding drivers I can use for windows 8.1. I already have the roms and recovery I wanna use. The drivers are holding me back. I am so upset with HTC lol.

Did you already unlock bootloader with HTC dev? Do you adb and fastboot setup yet on your pc?

No because I can't download the HTC drivers.. I've been trying to do that

Well you should get the adb and fastboot while that is downloading...I am not sure about the evo 4g but my other HTC devices required using fastboot to flash recovery and etc, then recovery for roms and stuff...getting s-off makes it faster too

But I already have those my computer won't read my phone when I plug it in to unlock the bootloader. I am gonna give up but I wanna root so bad lol

It did not work once again... All arrows point to windows 7. I found a computer and I will root tonight. Any rom suggestions

If you want to stay with a stock-ish type rom, go with MikG.
If you want more of an non-sense-type rom, try Decks Reloaded ---smaller in memory size and faster in my opinion.

Okay I am rooted and running evervolv ice 4.0.4. And compared to 2.3.3 I love it. It just took a while this is an old phone. No more HTC lol. Any tweak or app suggestions?? Not used to pics anymore

Well I am running ics now so its working like any other 2012 phone now lol. Its not too bad. The aokp I have made it kinda like a Motorola phone and I am a fan of DROID. I would keep it but I hate the camera. I have a baby that moves a lot and this thing is slow.
