HTC EVO Shift

interesting that they don't say if the screen is Super LCD or SAMOLED. So it's just plastic?

Is this an upgrade from the Evo?

Agree about the processor. Also, compared to 1GB in EVO, a ROM of 2GB is a boost. However, considering screen size, camera resolution, front-facing camera, and hdmi i/f.

They need to stop with the 65k colors on the screens tho.

Agreed, not an upgrade, just another option

Before we get all pumped up over the quadrant test, lets see how the processor performs in the real world, doing real things.

I'd much rather have a Droid 2 on Sprint than this Shift. I'm unimpressed.

Actually it is very much the same as the G2, with obvious differences like WiMax.

The G2 is a superior device to the Droid 2. The processor in the G2 is extremely fast, but then again, with the LG Optimus 2X coming out, it's already being beaten. Tough industry to stay on top.

That being said, even though the Evo is behind on horsepower, It is still very much a luxury device. With the front facing cam, luxurious 4.3" screen, and hdmi out, it is indeed a great, luxury phone. Add the after market support from XDA and you have a really great phone, that will stay relevant for some time.

But make no mistake, the G2 is a beast of a phone, and clock for clock, will out run the EVO any day of the week, without even breaking a digital sweat.

An EVO with with a smaller screen, no front facing camera and a keyboard with no designated number row? Um... I guess...

It's another choice for those who like slide qwerty.

It's easy to tell when a phones being called the next "it" because it's compared to the iPhone or called an iPhone-killer. The last phone that successfully went down the road was Evo. It didn't "kill" iP4, but it showed that Android's a good platform and other phonemakers could put out product that would succeed where the N1 didn't.

The EVO if you haven't noticed by the Shift's branding has become a franchise like the DROID is on Verizon. So you're going to see a bunch of phones on Sprint carrying the EVO name pretty soon.

For those of us too dumb to understand some of this. What is SWYPE technology? what is the wimaxx?

Sorry i am a moron when it comes to this, i came onto this forum to help me buy a phone. I am looking at EVO, EVO Shift (only now as of today) and Epic for sprint. I am due for my upgrade. I am looking at really being able to use it for some basic things but not for gaming and such. Sure a decent camera is nice but honestly not at the priority list for me.

Yes the apps for the droid are cool. But for a novice like me am i going to notice the droid 2.1 vs 2.2?

I really like the keyboard to text/email rather then just the screen texting.

so with evo you can swype? can you with epic? and you can't with EVO shift? but evo shift is still touch screen correct?

Both the EVO and Epic are now equipped with Swype. Not sure if the EVO Shift will have Swype. Yes, all of the aforementioned phones have full touch screens.

All Android phones are touchscreen. I am not sure if Swype will be preinstalled on Shift. I would recommend you stop by one of the retailers and get a hands-on demo of the phones.

Swype is a beta app for all android touchscreen phones. If you sign up for it, you can install it to your phone even if it does not come from the factory with it. Go to the above link, from momentoid and check it out......

<edit> sorry, dude i quoted the wrong post, i was trying to quote drdawg.....

zzzz come on next annoucement sprint AT&T wooping you at CES like no other

Sprint doesn't need to do the same things ATT and VZW do. ATT's announcements seem so huge, but their 4G rollout won't be anything special. They're already a year+ behind everyone else, and announcing phones that can't take advantage of 4G isn't good. Also, ATT 4G plan costs? That was left out for a reason.

I just want Sprint to continue to be a value provider and not get sucked into what everyone else is doing.

I'm very interested to see what Sprint will bring to the table. I currently have the Evo but I want a device even bigger than the Evo. I don't think I'll want a tab... just don't see the point still even with the great new honeycomb OS I seen so far. If I can get an Android with a 4.5 to 5" screen to upgrade to I'll stick with just an Android phone and purchase a new laptop :)
