hey guys,
it seems that my htc evo v 4g is overheating all the time the average for it is 83 degrees farenheight. But when i unlock it to text or check facebook for like 5 minutes the temperature will go up to 109 so how can i keep my phone cool so i can use it more?

What kind of case are you using? What's your signal strength? Are you charging it while you're doing this? What kind of data are you on, 4G or 3G? What's the ambient temperature? There are a ton of factors. Just know that some Android phones get hot quite readily and they can get out of control quickly if you're doing something like navigating in a car dock with the sun shining on them directly while using GPS over 4G. Luckily, they do actually tell you if the battery is overheating and will shut down for you if things get too out of hand automatically.

It's certainly hot. Batteries start draining fast and charging slow around 110 F, and that danger increases greatly at 120 F

Is your phone going to sleep when the screen is off? That happened to me once; for reasons unknown. I just performed a factory reset on my phone.

Mine has been doing the same thing the past few days (probably because I passed the 30 day return policy date on the 29th). Just a little while ago I had only had the phone on for 30 minutes or so, read some news and site posts and responded to 4. No streaming, no wifi, no gps and 3g signal bouncing all over the place. My temp went from 88

Mine started to hit 109 after installing the anthrax kernel, Im now on the newest version and my phone doesn't get as hot anymore

I would assume the CPU would underclock on its own to prevent meltdown.

I would think high battery temps would be the concern here.

I've already returned one phone and having the overheating issue with the second. It would get really warm and the battery drains for no reason - unplugged, just sitting there in standby mode. I've tried shutting down all the apps, look at the battery monitoring app and that doesn't tell me much. I used to take the battery out until I figured out how to restart it. If this is going to keep happening it's time to switch brands/models while I still can....

I have this problem when I'm in a weak signal area. But when the signal is good, the phone gets neither hot, and the battery drain is about normal.

Are you guys stock? Rooted? Custom rom? Custom kernel?

Sounds like either your processor is constantly running wide open or if you have a weak signal, your phone may heat up trying to search for/maintain a signal.

I've got my phone plugged in, 4G on, screen on for at least a good 45 mins and it's at normal temp.

I'm on CM9 DT and clocked at stock processor speed with smartass v2 on anthrax kernel.

My phone is stock. Kinda like keeping it stock for a little while to feel the phone out before I flash roms and kernels. The highest temp my phone ever reached was 104.2. I was on facebook over the 3g network and the signal is great where I live but the signal fluctuates. My gps location was on at the time. I could feel the phone was hot so I installed a temp app and seen it was reading 104.2 degrees. So, I turned off the 3g and gps location and let it cool back down with the screen off for about 5 minutes or so. I picked the phone up and it was down to about 97.5 degrees. I am thinking it must have to do with the signal fluctuations and think I might root and change some stuff around (PRI, PRL etc.) and see if it helps out any.

I know my Lg Esteem got kinda hot when I first got the phone and had bad battery life and lagged. Lg ended up updating the phone 3 times. Thanks to the devs The phone was fixed before Lg released one update lol thanks to the great community the esteem has. So I'm thinking that is what its going to take in this case. Taking into account the phone was more then likely rushed to release on VM and they still didn't work out all the bugs and force the community here to fix the bugs which I am glad to have AF and everyone here for all the work everyone does and all the help.

I am still wondering if other people have had these problems and fixed them by flashing a rom, pri, prl etc.? Any insight is greatly appreciated. I love Htc and other than the signal fluctuation, and phone getting hot I have to say this phone is still a beast and performs pretty great. If I can just fix the 2 bugs I'd be happy. :D
