Root htc evo water damaged and rooted!

If I dropped my htc evo in water and it wont turn on I going to take to sprint rapair center. Can they still find out it was rooted and not replace my phone because of that?

Any help? thanks

If you cant turn the phone on, they cant either, so they wont know. And FYI, to save you a trip, since its water damage Sprint wont do anything. They will just give you the number to Asurion and tell you to leave. So you should probably just call them.

I'm kind of late to the party, so it might be too late. Did you try to turn the phone on right away? If so, it's probably fried by now, especially if you kept trying and just left the batteyr in. You're supposed to immediately take the battery out, then let it dry covered in uncooked rice for at least 1-2 (or more) days.

That being said, they probably won't find out if it's really that far gone now. If you've only tried once or twice, then left the battery out, it might not be a total loss. It probably wouldn't be a good thing to send in a phone that might actually boot back up. You'll have to let us know what you've done so far.

I try drying it with a sponge because it wasn't on the water for long maybe 1 or 2 seconds then i put the battery back on, and try turning it on, but it never actually turn on.

I just try turning it on again after being on the rice for the whole night and its working now. Thanks a lot for your help though

A sponge wont get water out of the inside of the phone.

it wasn't on the water for long maybe 1 or 2 seconds

thats plenty long enough to ruin the phone.

then i put the battery back on, and try turning it on, but it never actually turn on.

Well there's your problem. You need to take the battery out and COMPLETELY dry the phone for AT LEAST 3 days. When you "try" to turn the phone, and there is water on the boards, the water shorts everything out, and fry's the phone.

I just try turning it on again after being on the rice for the whole night and its working now.

I'm guessing it wont work for long. Again, it doesnt matter that you have put it in rice now. If you tried to turn the phone on with water in it, it likely fried the board. Putting it in rice after the fact isnt going to do much.

I suggested this to someone yesterday, but if you want to give it a shot, since it's already damaged, pour some distilled water on it. Buy a gallon or two of distilled water and just pour it over the phone. Distilled water doesn't conduct electricity, so there may be some chance that you can save the phone without too much hassle. Afterwards just blowdry the hell out of it.

This is just a suggestion. This is something I'd do if I didn't want to call up Asurion and pay the money.

Although you did turn it back on and possibly fry some things. Ive done this with a phone before, and it worked great for about a month then fried the screen and turned into a big cluster of F. So plan on maybe getting a new phone soon.
But asurion and 100 bucks will have you a new one, and theyre great to deal with.

So I shouldn't even bother on trying to unroot cuz it will just stop working soon. So should i just wait for it to stop working and then take it in to get it replace?

Having a rooted phone voids your warranty. You should probably unroot it now while you have an opportunity.

I agree with this logic. I like the "better safe than sorry" approach.

The good thing is if the phone doesnt actually break, you can always root it again.
