Help htc hero help!!!!

i got my htc hero on t mobile uk and it was running 2.1 fine but i wanted 2.2 so i downgraded to 1.5 to enable me to do this and now im stuck ive restarted the phone and i get my update from t mobile but every time i try to install the updae the loading bar gets half way then i get an exclamation mark and a picture of a phone this happens for ages and i have to take the bater out or press home and power to reboot that way.. every ime i end up running 1.5... need some help im getting seriously stressed please help!!!

What update are you referring to? AFAIK there is no official upgrade path to Android 2.2 on the Hero. We are stuck with 2.1 unless we root the phone and install an "unofficial" version.
