Htc hero rom update to fix screen lag

I bought an htc hero from a tmobile shop last week will this already of come with the update that fixed the laggy screen its not to bad moving around the home pages but gets very bad when browsing the net even with no apps running in back ground. is there any way i can tell if the latest update has been installed ?
