HTC Hero slooow, lag, losing my patience ;-)

yeah, you're right. It does look like a major pain in the ass to root a cellular south Hero. That sucks. (I didn't bother looking at the guide before, just knew one was there lol)

I rooted my Hero and istalled Fresh 1.1 and Gumbo kernel .31 and then used the free overclock tool in the market as well as an application killer to keep it from running programs in the background, and it is a lot faster than it was stock. Well worth the half hour of work.

A seperate task killer is not really neccesary. That's the whole purpose of the new kernal to close idle programs more aggressively, to give you more free RAM.

I have a G1, and HTC Hero. I want to love the Hero. Bed it. I've had it 4 months now, and just finding it is so gosh damn slow. I've reset it, removed all extra apps. I have no idea. I mean, by slow I mean, click to get a new text message, count, 1,2,3,4,5 and then you get to the message app.

Browser, painful. Isn't the network. I have 5mbps network wifi...App switching is painfully slow.

ANything I can do. I just cancelled my sprint contract because I just can't use this phone. Keyboard reaction is seconds delay to type.

Probably just going to root it and hack on it, but anybody have any last minute, I'm on the ledge about to seriously toss this phone against a Rock help.

If anybody wants, I can make a YouTube video of how frakin unresponsive this phone has become.

I found that if my internal storage gets down to 50-60 megs, it does all of the above. Try deleting some apps and clearing caches until you're up to 80-90 and it should be happy times again.

I agree stock the phone lags way to much. It is dated hardware, it just can't handle and inefficient ROM, which pretty much all stock roms are. Rooted with the Gumbo ROM or Freshrom with the Gumbo kernal makes a world of difference. Strip out Sense and it will really fly. I have the stripped Gumbo ROM and absolutely love it.
