I have an HTC Hero and I am trying to get CM7 on it. I tried getting an older version of ROM Manager and was successful through 4shared because unfortunately the new ROM Manager only supports 2.2 and up and i have stock 2.1. I "successfully" flashed clockworkmod recovery only to get a black screen after manually holding down the volume and power and clicking the home for the recovery. At first it showed HTC and then it just went to a black screen. So i took out the battery and then and then tried doing it again and it just got stuck at the boot screen with HTC so i took the battery out and just decided to turn on the phone. In case anyone's wondering the ROM Manager version is 2.0.04, I think. I am for certain that the last two numbers are acurate though. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Welcome to the forums!

I see you've been posting in the Hero All Things Root forum, but I suspect that you're here in the US - do you have a Sprint Hero or an unlocked GSM Hero? Rooting details and support are very different between the two. Here's the Sprint Hero Root forum -

Rom Manager is a convenience, and if your partitions are messed up from trials so far, pretty sure you can install anything you need in recovery (volume-down + power-on for most HTC handsets, may vary for your model though).

For your own protection, not trying to rag on you, I know you don't need that when you're having trouble - but friends don't let friends use 4shared - especially for something this critical. ;)

I agree with using custom recovery. Using ROM Manager is easier, yes, but nothing is as sure as using recovery. Also make sure you wipe cache, dalvik and data. Whenever having problems with flashing something, you should wipe data to take that out of the equation.

4shared is bad because they distribute pirated apps. While ROM Manager may not be pirated (even though there is a paid version), pirate websites often inject malware into apps (goes for Windows, Android, or any other platform). And you're giving ROM Manager SuperUser privileges, that gives malware a prime spot to launch attacks from. Not saying your specific copy has malware, but it could and it might also be causing your problems.
