My phone crashed, the screen is black and has a red triangle with an exclamation point it. I know I am going to have to get a new phone but I want to try to get whatever I can off of the SD card. Is there a way to access it? I'm not sure what things are on the SD card and the SIM card, can someone explain the difference between the two? Does the SIM card only have contact information and the HD card has everything else?

The SD card is like an external hard drive on a computer. It has whatever you stored on it. A lot of your data is stored in the internal memory of the phone and, if you haven't backed it up, it's gone.

The SIM card has your subscriber (telephone account) information on it - number, etc. It also may have your contact info - it's up to you whether that's stored on the phone's memory or the SIM card. But if you put your contacts into your account, not into the phone, they're backed up on Google Contacts, and a new phone will sync them when you register it to that gmail account.

In the future, make sure that any data you need is backed up on something other than the phone - the cloud, a computer, something. If you lose the phone, or it's physically destroyed, it doesn't matter which card the data is on.
