My htc inspire 4G will not stay on anymore unless it is plugged into the charger. When i take it off the charger and try to do something on it it crashes. Could it be the battery?

I'm not familiar with your device but if you can remove the back cover on your phone, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds to completely drain all power from your phone. then pop it back in and try to see if it helped... this does sound like the battery tho...
