i have HTC inspire, its unlocked. I am in United Kingdom and my mobile internet is very slow, (slower than 2g) I am connected with o2 UK and they are saying its the phone settings. HTC are saying it will not work outside USA.
Can some one help as i have 4 handsets in the family.

Welcome to the forum!

You may get a quicker response by posting handset specific questions in the device sub-forum - HTC Inspire 4G - Android Forums

Isn't the Inspire a US version of the Desire HD... I do not think that we are set up for 4G in the UK, which is why you may be experiencing your issues!

Edit - the Inspire and the DHD may not be the same phone (under different brandning for different countries) but, as I said, I am not sure if the UK is set up for 4G yet.

Hi mickmm, and welcome to the forums

I also have an Inspire so I might be able to assist you. D-U-R-X is correct, the Inspire is the American variant to the HTC Desire HD and doesn't have the compatible 3G/4G radio in the UK. You're only going to get 2G/edge speeds at best with an unlocked Inspire. It would behoove you to trade it in for a Desire HD if at all possible.

Thanks for confirmation Shawn... I'll remember that for the next time I try giving advice on the Inspire!

By the way - loving the Avatar and the signature!! :)

Welcome to Android Forums!

It always pays to do your homework. I wasn't aware that the Inspire did not support the 2100 MHz band, which is what the major 3g networks use outside of the US.

What about this article?

"O2 first to switch on new superfast 3G 900MHz network - 18 Mar 2011

Offering greater coverage, a 50% increase in network capacity and 30% faster downloads, O2’s new 3G900 network delivers a superior smartphone and tablet experience for its customers

O2 announces that it has switched on a new superfast 3G network across London this week, having gained permission to reuse the 900MHz spectrum for 3G services from Ofcom, the UK Communications Regulator, back in January. O2 is the first UK operator to take advantage of the change to its 900MHz network licence and the new 3G900 network layer in London is expected to deliver a 50% increase in capacity to O2’s existing 3G network..."
I have an HTC Inspire 4G that I just unlocked, and was planning to use an O2 prepaid card while I visit the UK, since the phone runs on 850/900/1800/1900, and supposedly O2 does HSDPA on 900MHz. Is it just the London area that this is true, or has it spread across the UK by now?

Thanks! I'm just trying to figure out what will work best with my HTC Inspire 4G. I'm coming to the UK in three weeks, and it's the only unlocked phone I have. I found this on O2's site as well:

"O2’s UK 2G mobile network provides voice and data services which are available to 99% of the UK’s population.

O2’s UK 3G (HSPA+ 900 / 2100 MHz) network currently provides voice and high speed data services to over 84% of the UK population at speeds of up to 14.4Mbp and 21Mbps in major cities."
