HTC Legend Ringer Speaker replacement

funkoot

Newbie
Hi. The Ringer speaker on my 18mth old Legend stopped working yesterday. I have ordered a replacement speaker and was looking at a video tutorial for Legend disassembly. In the video the black rubber facia which houses the camera and flash seemed to pop out quite easily. It seemed pretty straight forward but when I tried to do the same on my phone the rubber facia came part off ,but looks to be glued in place. I don't want to damage the phone when I take off this facia and was wondering if anyone else has replaced the speaker on their Legend, and was the glue a problem.
Thanks,
Dave

I have just finished taking apart, fitting a new ringer speaker, and re-assembling my HTC Legend. All the instructions came from this link:
HTC Legend disassembly
Here are my observations.
The rear facia simply pulled away from the body and there was no glue to deal with. However, I had to gently lift the facia away from the body using a very small flathead (jewellers)screwdriver. With the facia removed I loosened the two retaining screws using a torx no.5 screw-driver. I then removed the battery cover, battery, SIM card and memory card. Then I removed another six scews (4 torx and two phillips head - two of the screws are hidden under stickers! so look closely ) from the bottom end of the phone. Up to this point the procedure is very straight forward. However, I found the next step to be the most difficult. With all the screws removed there is nothing holding the innards to the phone body and it is a case of levering the phone as shown in the guide. This step is the most stressful and takes the longest time, because the inside of the phone is tightly fitted to the outer housing. YOU NEED TO PERSEVERE WITH THIS STAGE - I NEARLY GAVE UP! After a lot of levering/pusing & pulling the inner part of the phone popped out. (contrary to what I read on some forums, there is no glue holding the inside of the phone to the case and I did not need to use a hairdryer to heat the phone up!)
With the inside of the phone detached it was a case of releasing two clips on either side to release the front and back, giving me access to the speaker. The faulty speaker simply popped out and the new one popped in - very easy!! Reasssembly was pretty straight forward but you need to take your time.
Good luck!!
