why will my htc m8 and Samsung gear s not connect?

Both HTC and Samsung make derivatives of Android.

The Gear S is all about locking you into the Samsung brand.

Android Wear devices are not proprietary and are designed to work across the board with Android.

The Gear S runs Tizen which is Samsungs own OS.

As far as I'm aware, the majority of Samsung smartwatches only work with certain Samsung handsets.
