Help HTC M9 One stuck on "optimizing apps"

Lurker
The past few days I had some issues with storage space, so I moved a lot of apps to my SD card. Now today at 4:45 a.m. when I turned on the phone, it started "Optimizing apps" and can't get past that "Android is starting" screen. It's been on "app 4 of 54 (SD card)" for almost 5 hours. Nothing else will work, and I can't power the phone off. Help!!

Try holding volume up and power for ten or so seconds.

From my experience it could take from a couple of hours to a whole night, depending on your phone's content and network quality.

Make sure you are on Wi-Fi and not a data connection for best performance.

When you say you can't power it off, what have you tried? Pressing and holding the power button for 10-20 seconds really should force a restart.

If that doesn't solve it, what happens if you restart in safe mode, or without the sd card? The possibility that the sd is problematic (e.g. one of the apps on there is corrupted) should be considered.
