HTC newbie seeking Sync help

Hi all, when I started using mobile phones, they were the size of a small brick, and I'm still a pretty unsophisticated user. Until very recently, I had only ever used my phone for calls. I barely ever even used text messages.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a technophobe. I've a degree in IT and worked for a few years as an IT Administrator. My speciality was building Access databases. I have also built a few simple websites and am a regular blogger. When I got involved with a 6,500-mile charity motorcycle ride (Moscow, Scotland, to Moscow, Russia, and back ...), I got an HTC Desire in order to be able to tweet our progress on Twitter.

Now that ride is over, I want to get more out of the phone ... and one of the most basic necessities is being able to sync my Outlook contacts from the PC on to the phone. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be getting very far with HTC Sync.

Whatever HTC's technical support guys say, I'm sure others have had similar problems. I'm off to explore the rest of the forums. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Forums.

You are correct that others have had similar problems, mostly because phone manufacturer's sync'ing software in general is not very good. As El Presidente pointed out, there are much better options from third party sources. You might also want to consider sync'ing Outlook with your Google account so everything happens in the cloud and you can pretty much ignore the USB umbilical cord.

Amazing! What a fool I feel for having fretted about this for weeks, ping-ponging messages back and forth with the tech support people. Syncing via Google took 5 mins. Thank you.
