Help HTC One greyed out

Arismac

Newbie
Please be gentle with an old newbie.

I have been trying to install an "app" called Alert.Me Pro into my new HTC One. My problem is that after clicking on the "Installed" button and scrolling down to select my new smart??? phone it is greyed out.

The Android/Google Device Manager seems to know I am in Australia but says it can not contact my phone.

I have logged out with both my computer and the HTC One, read a chapter of my book, come back, logged in both with the computer and HTC One using the same Username and Password but nothing has changed.

My question is do I now hit the HTC One with a hammer or the back of an axe? OR is there a more gentile solution.

Many thanks,

Mac, I assume you have a One M8, so this is the proper section for you getting the proper help. I deleted your other duplicate thread as that was in the incorrect forum and we don't want cross posting duplicate threads. makes it hard for us to follow. You should get some help and advice here. Cheers

Welcome to our little corner of the world, we would love to help you out. First let us clarify which phone you have. Do you have the HTC One M8 or M7? This is easy to check. by just looking at the back of the phone. Do you have 2 camera on the back? The lenses will be above each other. (the M7 will only have one).

Now lets check a few things :)

-Go into settings>security>Device administrators. Do you see Android Device Manager listed? If you do make sure it has a check mark by it. If you don't see it, download it here: Android Device Manager.

-I am assuming that since you have already downloaded one app that you are logged into a Google account on the phone. Make sure that this is the same account you are using to locate your device. You can go into your application drawer and open "device manager", look at the email listed at the top. Is it the same email you are using on your computer when locating your phone?

Also verify that device manager is showing your phone, and is able to locate it self (from the phone).

-If everything is setup correctly and you cannot locate the phone try turning off Wi-Fi and locating the phone again. If you can find it now, re-enable Wi-Fi and verify that it continues to work (This is a minor bug that effects a few devices)

Next, if everything is setup correctly you can go into settings>accounts and delete your google account, reboot, and re-add the account.

If none o this works please let us know so we can do some more advanced troubleshooting.

Sorry Don, lesson learned.

Now for the heavy stuff. :). I do have two lens, a small one above a larger one on the back of the phone. So can I presume it is an M8?

I went settings>security>Device administrators and it was not ticked but it is now after I agreed to some advice on the next page. Yes I do see the Android Device Manager.

Yes I do have a Google account and have used the same Username and Password for both phone and PC.

It is the next step where I come undone or perhaps not. The phone is indicating local weather and the adjacent suburb to where I live. So perhaps we can give that a tick as well?

Yes I have certainly downloaded and installed "Alert.Me" and that is working OK. The problem comes when I try to download "Alert.Me Pro". My PC shows that I have purchased.

I think I first need to delete my old Samsung from the Device Manager before downloading the payware version of "Alert.Me Pro"? Even though I have paid for a second copy of the App.

You can just see the HTC in the second image.

Cheers,
Mac

I went out for short walk (in my wheel chair) and when I came back it had magically fixed itself. I now have the App running and I have learned heaps. Many thanks.

Cheers,
Mac

Glad everything worked out for you, the above step is what fixed the issue. Without that checked the Device manager cannot access location data.

Welcome to the forums! Let us know if you have any other issues :)

-And yep, that is definitely the M8 you have
